Chris Rhett: The New Manager of Arthur Murray San Francisco

As we get closer to *opening Arthur Murray San Francisco, we thought we would give our readers a chance to get to know our new manager there.

[*UPDATE: Arthur Murray San Francisco is now open and scheduling lessons!]

Chris Rhett!

“What made you want to join Arthur Murray San Francisco?”

Chris Rhett:  I was born and raised here in the Bay Area.   I joined the AMSF team to bring a historic company back to a historic city. I love Arthur Murray, and dancing has changed my life. I want to share my love of dance with this amazing and beautiful city.

What does it mean to you knowing that there hasn’t been an Arthur Murray school there in 10 years?

CR:  It is a huge, and I mean huge, honor to be part of the team bringing Arthur Murray back to San Francisco. It’s been a long time coming and it’s way overdue. A city as diverse in culture and people, plus an organization just as diverse really deserve each other.

What do you want to say to the Arthur Murray students and staff from Redwood City?

CR: Arthur Murray Redwood city will always be my home and have my heart. I will always cherish every relationship from my home school. I’ve learned so much from everyone there and will continue to grow, learn, and use every opportunity to help change someone’s life through dancing. Now, San Francisco has missed out on the Arthur Murray experience for long enough. It’s time. Who better to bring another school into our family of schools, than people from our family.

What can the new Arthur Murray San Francisco students expect from you?

CR: I’m here to share with you not only dancing, but all of the amazing things dancing can do for your life. We are going to have fun and create amazing experiences as well. I want the entire city of San Francisco to be able to social dance and, more importantly, reap the benefits of learning to dance along the way.

What is the advantage to taking lessons at an Arthur Murray?

CR: You get your own personal team of motivators, teachers, friends, dance partners and people who genuinely have your goals and best interests at heart. I watched so many people on our dance floor, blossom into the people they dream of.

It’s like Disneyland for adults.

We have a system in play that has been used, battle tested, and refined for over a hundred years and it works every single time. I guarantee that if you go to an Arthur Murray studio, you will learn to dance and have the most amazing time doing so.

What are your 5 favorite things to do around San Francisco?

  1. Golden Gate Park

  2. Tango In the square

  3. Giants Games

  4. The museum of modern art

  5. Some of the best hotdogs, pupusas, and Mexican food anywhere

What do you love most about teaching

  1. I LOVE teaching couples!  When you are teaching two people to dance together it changes their relationship.  It puts you in a vulnerable, and sometimes awkward, place that can humble you, but help you grow, and laugh together.
  2. Teaching Newcomers lights up my whole world! To show someone who has never danced before that dancing, not only, is fun, but it’s easy and they can do it.

Overall, it’s being able to see the look on someone’s face when they get it, when you get to see that instant when dancing starts to feel great, but also being able to laugh and enjoy the learning process together.

What vision do you have for AMSF?

CR: My vision for AMSF is to create a new dancing family and to bring a sense of community back to social dancing. I want to create an environment that is safe for learning, fun for dancing, and is a home away from home. I want to create an atmosphere that makes people want to be at the studio everyday.
