DWTS 24 Celebrity Profile: Normani Kordei

Normani Kordei knows all about being eliminated from a televised reality talent competition. It was 2012, the show was the X-Factor, and she had to exit the stage, and possibly watch all her dreams fall apart.

Until the judges decided otherwise. Let’s hope this season on Dancing with the Stars, the judges won’t be discussing elimination anytime soon.

3 Reasons Why Normani Kordei is Perfect for DWTS

1.  She’s Been There

There are those that have danced before, and those that have been on camera before, but not many people on the show understand the very specific demands of a reality talent show (other than Heather Morris).  Normani’s time on the X-Factor may be a big advantage when it comes to training and quick turnaround times from week to week.

2.  She is Bold

She speaks her mind in a fearless beyond her years sort of way.  We’re thinking that that translates well onto the dance floor.

3.  She is Ready for the Spotlight

Kordei, the singer, has shared one fifth of the spotlight with her group.  DWTS gives her a chance to shine all on her own.

5 Things You May Not Know About Normani Kordei

1.  She Started as a Solo Artist

Kordei set out as a solo artist on the X Factor, until the judges decides to assemble what would now turn into the popular girl group 5th Harmony.

2.  Relocated

Normani was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but spent her early years in New Orleans.  When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the family was relocated to Houston, Texas.

3.  She Took a Stand

One of the biggest perks these days to stardom is the massive increase in followers on a variety of social media platforms.  When that influx of people shows up, there are bound to be a few that are there for the wrong reasons.  Such was the case in August of 2016 when Normani was the victim of racially motivated cyber-bullying, and she opted to leave Twitter, and her hard to come by, blue checkmarked, verified account.

4. Band Issues

Like many of the dance routines that she’ll show on Dancing with the Stars, there’s a lot that viewers won’t see that goes into all the glitz and glam.  5th Harmony is no exception.  The 5 young women have been the subject of 5th “dis-Harmony”, and Kordei voiced her opinions on all the negative speculation to Eonline

5. Dancing and Grandma

Kordei shared with Rolling Out that Dancing with the Stars was a show she enjoyed, but also because it was a show she watched with her grandma.  “It was always captivating to see two people grow and have this journey with each other and maybe not win but come out stronger in the end.”

Final Thought

In spite of her musical celebrity, it would be hard for Normani to still not feel like that solo artist that was eliminated on the X Factor.  DWTS gives her the platform to show that cyber-bullies can’t touch her, that she should be taken seriously as a solo artist, and that there was a reason why the show was so special for her and her grandmother.
