A Simple Guide to Your First Dance Lesson

First Dance Class Guide

Schedule your lesson, Walk in, and Dance Out.  Article over.  (Not really)

Maybe that’s a bit too simple.

Step 1: Establish Backstory

Designed For:  Fuel, Motivation

Summary:  What is the dance-version of your “before picture”?  Can you think of a time where dancing could have served you well?  This is your backstory.  The motivation you will need to take the next steps necessary to taking your first Arthur Murray dance lesson.  Without the before, we can’t appreciate the after.

Examples: Maybe you turned down a dance invitation, and you don’t want that to happen again.  You’re the father, mother, or the soon-to-be bride and groom, and you want a memorable wedding dance.  Perhaps you have a cruise, dinner dance, office party, or class reunion where you’d like to reinvent

Step 2:  Schedule Your Lesson

Designed For:  Finding a convenient time, Doing something about your motivation

Summary: Everything reason that makes sense about taking a dance lesson can get wiped away with one game of Angry Birds.  The solution?  Schedule it right away, and play Angry Birds to keep yourself occupied until your appointment.

Step 3: Walk In

Designed For:  Your First Step as a Dancer, Your Origin Story

Summary:  You are there.  It’s time.  Don’t look back.  The sooner you walk in, the sooner you can dance out.  In the immortal words of Obi Wan Kenobi, “You’ve taken your first step into a larger world.”  Or, closer to home, “The hardest step you’ll ever learn, is the first one through the door.” – Kathryn Murray

What Will Happen:  The professionals at Arthur Murray will chat with you, introduce you to the easy to learn fundamentals, and you’ll be guided through

Step 4: Try the Lesson

Designed For:  Building the Basics

Summary:  By the end of your initial consultation you will have a much better understanding of what the staff and teaching system of Arthur Murray can do for you.  With that in mind, your teacher will recommend the best program that fits your level of motivation and time frame.

Your teacher will recommend the best plan of action, and help you put a timetable to your goals.

Step 5:  Dance Out

Designed For:  Pep in your step

Summary:  In less time than it takes for you to get a haircut, or get your car washed, you will be up and dancing.  You may not do the splits or swing from the chandelier… yet, but you may walk taller, and look at your social calendar a little differently.

What Will Happen:  You’ve thought about this long enough.  By the end of your free consultation lesson, you should have eliminated all the myths about dancing, and your capabilities to learn it.

Your backstory has carried you through, and now you have:

  1. The School
  2. The Staff
  3. The Program
  4. The Motivation

… and, before you know it, you’ll have The Skills.
