Quotes From the District Showcase

Quotes From the District Showcase

The District Showcase is an event that has grown over the years into one of the largest events of its kind in Arthur Murray.

But numbers only tell part of the story. The real magic of a District Showcase lives in the moments between heats, the conversations at the tables, and the transformations that happen when students step outside their comfort zones.

Here are some quotes from some of the students and professionals who experienced it firsthand. These aren’t polished testimonials – they’re raw reactions from people who just did something brave.

madisen-olaughlin-150.jpgMadisen – Manager, Walnut Creek

“This was the most fun at a showcase we’ve ever had! The most participation, the most organized, the most energy, and with the most amazing group of students and teachers. Such a fantastic day!”

What Madisen is describing isn’t just logistics going well. It’s that moment when everything clicks – when preparation meets execution and the result exceeds expectations.

evan-boyer-150.jpgEvan B – Manager, Hayward

“What an honor it has been to be on this exciting dance journey with everyone. Our district showcase this spring is something that will surely go down in history. The energy was electric, the dancing was beautiful and the feeling of the day was love. Words cannot express how proud I am of every student who got out there and showed why Arthur Murray Studios are the leaders in ballroom dancing. I can’t wait to see how showcase will shape up in the fall! Bravo!”

joey-sena-150.jpgJoey – Manager, Livermore

“It was such a privilege to be a part of history alongside the greatest bunch of students and teachers in the company. This event is a perfect example of what happens when you take a dream and don’t stop until it becomes a reality. There’s no telling what history we will make in September.”

jenny-lynn-150.jpgJenny – Manager, Redwood City

“This spring showcase was history in the making, by far the most exciting showcase I’ve been at in my 12 years, so proud of every student who participated and especially for all the 1st time showcase participants. Can’t wait to see what happens in 6 months!”

In fact, the first-time participants often have the most powerful experiences. They arrive terrified and leave transformed. That transition – from fear to confidence – happens in a matter of hours.

Christie – Manager, Livermore

“This District Showcase was an amazing experience and a record breaker! It was an honor to be out there on the dance floor once again. Each student looked so prepared, enthusiastic & happy. I loved every moment & I can’t wait for the next one!”

CJ – Manager, Redwood City

“A culmination of when excitement meets preparation!! And what else would you expect but to break records and make history when great people come together for the love of dance.”

Evan H – Manager, Hayward

“I was blown away with the amount of support and camaraderie among everyone who attended! Everyone was so supportive and even with the record breaking size, it felt like we were all part of the same studio. It wasn’t just the dancing, it was an experience.”

That last sentence is key. “It wasn’t just the dancing, it was an experience.” That’s what separates a showcase from a recital. The community aspect transforms it into something bigger than individual performances.

Karen P. – Manager, Walnut Creek

“The team work throughout the day was electric. I was so proud of our amazing students and staff!”

Gary Garcia – long time student in Walnut Creek, Hayward, and Redwood City

“In a few words, it was a lot of movement on the dance floor, a lot more talented movement. I was able to navigate a lot better in the smooth dances, way more comfortable than last time.” For more on this topic, check out The 2015 Arthur Murray All Star Championship Results.

Gary’s comment highlights something important: Progress is measurable. From one showcase to the next, you can feel the difference. The floor that once felt chaotic starts to feel manageable. The movements that once felt foreign start to feel natural.

Bobby Gonzalez

“I was so honored to be a part of the historical Bay Area Showcase, #districtshowcase14 and a great time was had by all, thank you Daisey and Chris. This year we added Mr Brent Mills as our music director and he was amazing, every song was perfect and his interactions with the dancers added to our event. Our Aussie friends Mark and Melanie Perkovich danced a beautiful show full of passion and energy. I love their love for Dance and passion for teaching. I can’t wait for the next district showcase and I can only hope that the feeling returns to my hand by then.” 🙂

Emalynn (first timer) from Walnut Creek

“It’s not as scary as it sounds! It’s a fun and friendly atmosphere and you get to see some amazing dancers, and you learn!”

This might be the most important quote in the entire collection. “It’s not as scary as it sounds.” That’s the message every first-timer needs to hear – and it can only be delivered by someone who was recently in their shoes.

Mike (new student who came to spectate and have dinner) from Walnut Creek

“Really high energy and it makes you want to get out there and dance. The show at the end was pretty sick!”

Mike came to watch. He left wanting to participate. That’s the power of a well-run showcase – it turns spectators into future participants.

Mike Hewitt (1st timer) from Livermore

“It was awesome for a 1st time experience. It just blew my mind. Had a great time. It’s just one big party everybody on the dance floor having a good time dancing. I would recommend it for the new people to go out there and just get a nice experience.”

Paul Calhoun (long time student) from Livermore

“The single most important benefit we got was the 2 or 4 weeks of hard work, drills, and extra lessons that led us up to showcase where we actually got to re-enforce it. Because quite frankly, the showcase was the icing on the cake.”

Paul nails something that most people miss. The showcase isn’t just the event – it’s the preparation leading up to it. That’s where the real growth happens. The showcase is just where you get to celebrate it.

Kathy from Hayward

“It’s hard to describe…looking around the energy of the day was so much fun. It’s so inspiring to be around so many people who are all dancing & enjoying themselves all in the same way. For me the feeling was of personal accomplishment and triumph!”

Brent Mills – Music Director

“I have never had such fun, in ONE DAY as I did with your region showcase! I deliver music to over 80 events a year and have never experienced such fun and energy! This is when all the dancing, practicing, sweating and anything else, comes in to play…of which, makes a wonderful event such as yours! Your students and staff should count themselves lucky to have such a wonderful event to inspire all!”

When the music director – someone who works 80+ events a year – says yours stands out, that means something.

Gabriela Young – Arthur Murray Consultant

“Northern California 2014 Showcase, was beyond thrilling. The excitement in the room was electrifying with over 200 participants joyously dancing the day away! Thank you for having me be a part of this wonderful event! See you all at the next one, I know I can’t wait!”

What These Quotes Have in Common

Read through these again. Notice a pattern?

Nobody talks about perfect scores. Nobody mentions trophies. Nobody brags about outperforming their competition.

What they talk about is energy. Community. Personal accomplishment. Fun.

That’s not an accident. That’s what happens when an event is designed with the right priorities. The showcase isn’t about who’s the best dancer in the room. It’s about everyone in the room becoming a better version of themselves.

Final Thought

If you’ve been on the fence about participating in a showcase, let these voices be your guide. The fear you’re feeling is normal. Everyone feels it. The difference is whether you let it stop you.

These students didn’t let it stop them. And look at what they experienced.

Your turn.
