Origin of the Hustle
The Hustle is believed to have originated in the early 1970s, and its roots can be traced to other fast-paced dances such as the Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, Swing and Tango. After the release of Saturday Night Fever, the Hustle became even more popular as John Travolta's dance moves showed up on the dance floor.
How to Hustle
The Hustle can be performed as a partner or line dance. Originally starting as a six-count dance, it was eventually abbreviated down to three or four counts to allow for tricks and showy movements. The Hustle became increasingly popular during disco dance competitions.
